Digital Audio Theory

Second in our offerings of audio with Joel Watts, Audio Director of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra will be held at The Shell in the Multipurpose room. This knowledge is fundamental to all mixing situations when using a Digital Audio Console (DAC). The
Knowing how audio signals become digitized and what you can and cannot do with them is crucial in understanding the use of filters such as EQ, Compression, and Effects as well as pushing the mixing limitations of digital systems to their maximum abilities. This class will cover digital audio fundamentals such as: sample rate, bit depth, Nyquist theory, AD/DA conversion, sample rate conversion, digital clocking, and various digital formats. After the lecture portion the class will then apply that knowledge with a DigiCo SD12 and a HAPI MKii.

This class requires the student to have previous knowledge and experience building basic sound systems and using small to medium format consoles. This class is designed to introduce the student to digital audio theory, implementation, and practices found across the entertainment industry.
