Audio Training Level 1: System Familiarization
Join us for an intensive Audio Training Level 1 course, designed to familiarize participants with professional audio systems. This training is essential for anyone looking to build a foundation in audio operations and support.
During this course, you will learn the correct procedures for setting up and tearing down basic audio equipment, assisting an A1/Audio crew lead during load-ins and shows, and conducting line checks and sound checks. You’ll also be introduced to basic safety practices necessary for working in audio environments.
Key topics covered in this training include:
- Locating and managing audio equipment and cables
- Setting up and breaking down mic stands
- Understanding signal paths and stage patching
- Properly using and troubleshooting audio connections on stage
- Show setup, including mic placement and usage of snakes
- Setting up Direct Input (DI) boxes for playback
- Double-checking Clear Com systems (both cabled and wireless)Using backstage paging and communicating with the technical director and head of audio
- By the end of this training, you will be equipped to assist an A1/Audio crew lead competently and function as an effective audio hand. However, operating audio systems independently will require completion of Level II training.

- The learner must have worked a call from the referral hall, worked under a collective bargaining agreement, or be a current member of IATSE Local 122.
