SUMMARY:Video 30: Fundamental Video Concepts
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on course mixing lecture with application\, “Fundamental Video Concepts\,” is designed for theatrical stage employees and provides the basic concepts needed to understand and operate video systems. \nCourse Goals \nThis class provides attendees with the foundational knowledge needed to work with video systems\, including: \n\nImage composition and formats\nSignal flow\nTroubleshooting\nProjection basics\n\nThis is an interactive class where we will build a small video system from the ground up\, providing you with hands-on experience. We will explore the signal flow from a laptop input through a simple video switch\, a distribution amplifier\, and onto a confidence monitor. \nKey Concepts Covered \n\nAspect Ratio and Resolution: You’ll learn what aspect ratio is and why 16×9 is the most common ratio used. We will also cover how resolutions like 1920×1080 (FHD) and 1280×720 (HD) relate to aspect ratio. A higher resolution means the displayed content appears sharper.\nColor Space: We’ll discuss the different ways a video signal is transmitted. RGB is an additive color model that creates a wide array of colors by mixing red\, green\, and blue light. We will also cover YUV (or YCbCr)\, a color model that represents color through brightness and two color difference signals.\nSignal Flow: You will learn the basics of signal flow\, including how a video source outputs to the input of a display. A complete video system consists of at least a video source\, a video display\, and a way to connect the two. We will also cover how destinations allow you to show different sources on different displays at the same time within the same system.\nProjection Basics: You’ll be introduced to projection concepts like lens ratio and how to calculate projection distance. We’ll also cover projection terms like zoom\, focus\, lens shift\, roll\, yaw\, and pitch. You will learn how to properly align a projector and correct for image distortions like keystone.\n\n  \nRegister HERE \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: \n\nThe learner must have worked a call from the referral hall\, worked under a collective bargaining agreement\, or be a current member of IATSE Local 122.\nThis is an in person class. This class has limited attendance and all attendees must have a reservation; therefore\, it will be treated like a job call.\nIf you are unable to attend\, please cancel your ticket or email education@iatse122.org.\nTardiness and/or No-Call-No-Show will be reported to the IATSE Local 122 Compliance Committee.
