From the proper handling of equipment to understanding the language of the stage\, you will gain the practical skills necessary to step onto a job site with confidence. \nCourse Outline:\n1. The Art of the Coil: Professional Cable Wrapping A well-coiled cable is the mark of a true professional. Learn the industry-standard “over-under” wrapping technique\, a method that not only prevents tangles and extends the life of the cable but also ensures quick and easy deployment during setup. We will cover the mechanics of this essential skill\, allowing you to handle audio\, lighting\, and power cables with proficiency. \n2. A Clean Stage is a Safe Stage: Tabbing and Taping Properly securing cables is paramount for the safety of performers\, crew\, and the audience. This section will introduce the correct methods for “tabbing” and taping down cables using gaffer’s tape. You will learn how to create a clean\, trip-hazard-free environment while protecting the cables from damage and ensuring a professional appearance. \n3. Building the Backbone: Truss Assembly Stage truss forms the skeleton of most modern productions\, supporting lighting\, sound\, and video elements. This module will cover the fundamentals of assembling and disassembling common types of stage truss. You will learn to identify different truss components\, understand basic load-bearing principles\, and follow safe building practices to construct stable and secure structures. \n4. Handle with Care: Best Practices for Materials Handling The live event industry involves the constant movement of heavy and often delicate equipment. This segment will focus on safe and efficient materials handling techniques. Topics will include proper lifting procedures\, the use of dollies and carts\, and best practices for loading and unloading trucks. The emphasis will be on personal safety and the prevention of injury and equipment damage. \n5. Speaking the Language: A Guide to Stage Directions Clear communication is critical in the fast-paced environment of a live show. This portion of the class will demystify the terminology used on stage. SUMMARY:Video 30: Fundamental Video Concepts
DESCRIPTION:This is an entry level class that is designed for individuals new to IATSE Local 122 or new to the audio department. “Audio 30 – Intro to Audio”\, or a small level of experience working on audio crews\, is required to take this class. \nCompletion of this class begins to prepare the individual for the technical knowledge required to work with audio systems. Individuals are not expected to work alone upon completion of this class\, however the individual is expected to be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of audio systems and their components. Individuals will begin to learn the working technical theories that are key to using audio systems. Individuals will learn about the “basic sound system”\, it’s variations\, and the variety of cabling conventions used. Topics of signal chain\, gain structure\, routing\, powering\, and basic setup are covered. \nUpon completion of this class\, individuals are expected to be able to identify all major parts of an audio system\, and be able to work with an experienced supervisor to setup a small to medium sized sound system.
