Electrics Crew Intensive

Welcome to our intensive theater technician workshop, designed to cater to both newcomers and those with intermediate experience in the world of stage lighting. Taught by IATSE Local 122 Journeyman and Head of Electrics at The Balboa Theater Nicole Davison, this class will focus on hanging and circuiting fixtures on a batten. Electrics crews hang, focus and wire fixtures every day. Learn the skills needed to complete these tasks in the beautiful and historic Balboa Theater.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, this class promises a comprehensive dive into the art and science of hanging, circuiting, and labeling lighting fixtures. From 9 am to 1 pm, we’ll embark on a journey that combines both theory and hands-on practice, ensuring that by the end of our session, you’ll be well-equipped to be a functional member of any stage electrics crew.
Safety, as always, is paramount. As proud members of the union, we emphasize the importance of adhering to safety protocols at all times. Throughout the class, you’ll become adept at using the clove hitch to secure socapex, breakouts, and DMX on a batten. Additionally, we’ll introduce essential tools of the trade, including the sharpie for labeling, the crescent wrench for adjustments, and the flashlight for visibility in low-light conditions. Our goal is to ensure that you leave not only with enhanced technical skills but also with a deep-rooted sense of responsibility and safety consciousness. Let’s illuminate the stage together!

- The learner must have worked a call from the referral hall, worked under a collective bargaining agreement, or be a current member of IATSE Local 122.
- This is an in person class. This class has limited attendance and all attendees must have a reservation; therefore, it will be treated like a job call.

- Tardiness and/or No-Call-No-Show will be reported to the IATSE Local 122 Compliance Committee.
