Ring Lock Scaffolding Build & Lead Class

This 2-hour technical workshop provides comprehensive, hands-on instruction for staging event scaffolding decks. The curriculum is structured to take learners from foundational crew mechanics to leadership and troubleshooting capabilities on a build site.
Unlike the climbing modules in this series, this class does not require the Fall Protection course as a prerequisite.
Course Progression
- Crew Functions & Roles: Understanding individual responsibilities, safety positioning, and team dynamics within a build crew.
- The Build Process: A sequential, step-by-step breakdown of erecting and dismantling a staging scaffolding deck.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying, diagnosing, and correcting structural alignment errors, uneven ground challenges, and equipment issues in real-time.
- Crew Leadership: Strategies for directing other workers, maintaining build efficiency, and managing onsite safety as a lead deck hand or supervisor.
Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of this session, participants will be qualified to:
- Efficiently execute any position on a scaffolding deck build crew.
- Oversee and direct a team through the full assembly and teardown process.
- Inspect the build for common errors and implement immediate structural solutions.
Who Should Attend?
This class is open to all staging professionals, stagehands, and crew members looking to aquire deck building skills or transition into leadership, lead hand, or deck chief roles.
PPE
Participants should bring their own personal protective equipment and tools if they have them:
- Hard Hat
- Gloves
- High Viz Vest
- Minimum Tool Kit (Please review the requirements on our Minimum Tool Kit Page.
- If you own a level (4ft preferred) then please bring it

- The learner must have worked a call from the referral hall, worked under a collective bargaining agreement, or be a current member of IATSE Local 122.
- This is an in person class. This class has limited attendance and all attendees must have a reservation; therefore, it will be treated like a job call.
